Recycling Aluminum Cans. Our neighbornood organization ( Sheridan Triangle Neighborhood Association ) is financed primarily with the procedes from recycling aluminum cans. Residents in the neighborhood drop off cans that they save (and collect) and I crush them with my can crusher. When I have load I take them to the recycle center . Every few months I take a load of between 50 and 100 pounds. For a while last year (2008) this brought a nice check. Now it's just a few dollars. Can crusher made from old pump jack. I've been using this machine for over 30 years to crush aluminum cans for recycling. It was built by Baker Manufacturing (no relation) for use in converting old windmill driven water pumps to 'modern' electricity. I adapted it for can crushing and refined the design over the years for safety and reliability. The crusher goes up and down about once every two seconds. This picture shows a can half crushed. The pedistal that holds the can under the ram automatically swings away when the can is crushed and the ram begins to move back up. Watch a video of the crusher in action (last winter so it was very cold in the garage.) |
